So at my last visit with Dr. Lucky, we discussed my plans for prophylactic mastectomy (PBM) and reconstruction. I told her that my first choice was to have a "free flap" tissue transfer procedure rather than an implant, whereupon she eyed my waistline a bit skeptically and announced, "where are they going to get it from? There isn't much fat on you."
"Well, what about this?" I replied, grabbing about an inch and half of flesh from my midsection.
"I think that's just loose skin."
I never thought that I would live see the day that I would be so dispirited to learn that I am as fat-free as a skim latte.
That
being said, all hope is not lost. In November, I am going down to New
Orleans for a consultation with the New Orleans Center for Restorative
Breast Surgery, more simply referred to in the BRCA world as NOLA.
They are the master artisans of breasts and they have a reputation for
being able to rebuild boobs without implants even on thinner women.
They can transfer tissue from other sites besides the belly, such as
the hips and the buttocks, if necessary.
But I have to manage my expectations. And I may have to make a tough choice about whether I will be willing to go smaller (I'm currently a big C/small D) or change course to an implant to stay the same size.
The only bonus is that I have shelved my plans to shed my last ten pounds of baby weight. There seems to be little point.
Yes, I would like a side of fries with that!
